16-year-old Mekayla Bali was last seen on the afternoon of April 12, 2016, in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. That morning, she went to school as usual but left shortly after arriving. Before she vanished, she sent her friends cryptic messages, made calls to unknown recipients, and her movements through town were strange. She even returned to school briefly before taking off again. There’s no evidence that she met up with anyone or that she left town on a bus or by other means, so what happened to Mekayla Bali on that sunny spring afternoon?

People in Riverside California were left reeling when they heard the shocking news of a horrible crime committed in the usually peaceful neighbourhood of La Sierra South. Each detail they learned was more horrifying than the last. A teenage girl abducted; a law enforcement officer killed in a shootout; and 3 members of the beloved family found dead. Little did everyone know this story was much bigger, and it originated 2,600 miles away in Virginia with an absolute monster named Austin Lee Edwards.

Brianna got sick and had to take an unexpected hiatus, so, the new plan for October is an in-depth coverage of a true crime case with all 3 parts being released at once! We appreciate your patience and your loyal listenership, so we're making it up to you the best we can. Now, on with the show...
On October 2, 1996, in the small town of Waurika, Oklahoma, 16-year-old Heather Rich snuck out of her bedroom in the middle of the night to see a friend. She never returned home and for 7 agonizing days, her parents did everything they could to find their daughter. Meanwhile, on the evening of October 9, a Texas rancher and his granddaughter saw something floating in Belknap Creek. Assuming a calf had slipped into the river upstream and drowned, he shot the body twice to sink it. The next morning, he realized the calf was still floating in the creek. Upon closer inspection, he realized this wasn’t the body of a drowned calf – it was the body of a person…

Happy Thanksgiving, and welcome to the "Brie spent all week writing an episode and then got sick and now we're releasing a Best of" episode! For our listeners, don't worry! We promised you 5 episodes this month, and by god you're gonna get it... just not today. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this throwback classic.---
It’s Halloween night in 1957. Betty and Peter Fabiano had turned out the lights in their home in Sun Valley, California. They had just gotten comfy in bed when they heard the doorbell ring. It was past 11 p.m., and they hadn’t had trick-or-treaters in hours. They probably looked at each other, debating who would go answer the door, when the doorbell rang again. Betty watched as Peter got out of bed and headed down the stairs. She heard him answer the door saying, “Yes? Isn’t it kind of late for this sort of thing?” She couldn’t make out the response of the person at the door – she just heard a strange voice that sounded to her like a woman impersonating a man. Suddenly, she heard a pop, then a thump, then silence. As she hurried downstairs to see what was happening, she heard a car outside speed off into the night, the screeching tires faded into the screech of her own terrified screams as she looked down at Peter, who was sprawled out on the floor, unconscious, with blood pouring out of his chest…

In 2005, Eddie Tillman was a 14-year-old boy living in Brooklyn with his loving mother and sisters. On August 10, his mother dropped him off at summer school, gave him some lunch money, and watched as he entered the school. That was the last time she saw her son. Two months prior to his disappearance, he came out as gay and his family accepted him into loving arms. After his disappearance, his mother learned he was communicating with men online. Are one of these men responsible for his disappearance? Are the police correct when they say he ran away? What really happened to Eddie Tillman?
If you have any information about the disappearance of Eddie Tillman, who has been missing from Manhattan’s Lower East Side in New York City since August 10, 2005, please contact the New York Police Department Missing Persons Squad at (212) 694-7781.

We know we left you hanging at the end of Part One, so in Part Two of our episode discussing Erin Chorney's case we jump right into the major crime technique the RCMP and the Brandon Police Service utilized to help progress their investigation into Erin's disappearance...

The technique used was an elaborate and controversial one known as a Mr. Big sting operation. Sure, this technique is outlawed in other countries, but here in Canada we love utilizing this audacious tactic.

Tune in to Part Two to hear all about this sting operation and what it did for the police's investigation.
